BotW: Tree Hefeweizen

Nothing special. Tastes like a hefeweizen should. Very similar to what you can get at the Yaletown Brewpub.

The “will a buy it again” rating: Maybe

Tool in concert

Last night I managed to make it to the newly renamed Rogers Arena to see Tool. The show was pretty good. Tool and the special effects was great. The one thing that stopped the show from being awesome was the security guards constantly shining flashlights into your eyes attempting to catch people with cameras. With everything now having some sort of camera in it,either don’t allow electronics at all, or let people take their crappy videos / pictures.

BotW: Phillips Origional IPA

So I’ve lapsed in posting the beers that I’ve been drinking…. again. I started playing soccer again and I’m still getting used to the new schedule.

This week while out watching the playoffs, I picked up a 6er of Phillips Original IPA. I quite enjoyed it. The hoppiness was nicely balanced and not over powering. The IPA had a light amber colour and after a few hours in the fridge developed a chill haze.

The “will I buy it again” rating: Definitely.

Spending my tax return

My tax return arrived the other day, so I’ve spent the last few days finding ways to spend it. So far I’ve order a nikon s3000 camera, a motorola milestone, a saris bones 3 bike rack and a couple tickets to vancouver craft brewery week events. All except the tickets were replacing items that weren’t fully functional.

A new toy

I finally replaced my blackberry which was slowly dying a painful death with a Motorola Milestone. It’s pretty cool, although there are a few minor issues. Like the iphone it has a whole bunch of apps, including one which lets me post here.

BotW: North Coast Brewing Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout

Hmmmmm…. Good.

North Coast Brewing’s Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout is, well… awesome for those who like a full bodied stout with an overload of flavour. This beer is meant to drunk slowly, with the chocolate malt and coffee aromas are also dominate in the taste, it start of smooth but can get quite heavy if drank too quickly….

…And with 9% alc/vol, it adds just that extra little kick :)

The “will I buy it again” rating: Fuck Ya.

Canucks 7 – BJs 3

Went to the Canucks game last night, consumed a few beers, and watched Burrows score a hat trick. That makes 7 wins out of the last 8 games! Finally getting on a roll.

Beer Of The Week: The Return

It’s been a while since I last had a Beer Of The Week (2003!). That doesn’t mean that I haven’t been drinking any interesting beer, I’ve just been too lazy to post anything. So here it is, hopefully the return of the “Beer of the Week”

This week while in my local BC Liquor Store, I found a beer I tried at the Hopscotch festival in November, Stanley Park Brewery 1897 Amber.

I bought six and I did a little research about the beer when I got home. It turns out the the brewery is owned by the Mark Anthony group who are the biggest producer of wine in BC, Canada. owning Mission Hill , but also lower-end labels such as Sonora Ranch and Painted Turtle. They also are a large local producer of alcopops / coolers such as Mikes Hard Lemonade and Rockstar. The 1897 Amber is one their first entries into the craft brewing industry.

As for the beer itself, it’s supposed to be a Belgian style Amber. From their marketing department

Hand selected Belgian Amber malt is blended with the finest French and Canadian malts, then brewed with characteristic English and European hops to produce a beer of nuance. The mellow, toasted malt and even body is perfectly balanced with a soft bitterness and mild hop aroma. The resulting light bodied beer has a subtle flavor complexity and an exceptionally clean finish.

My thoughts, the Amber has a clear medium amber colour, with low carbination, and a malty aroma. Taste-wise, it is lightly hopped with a malty flavour. Overall, everything seems to work together but nothing is overpowering. The bad is that there is nothing special about the beer to separate it from other craft beers

The “will I buy it again” rating: Maybe.
